View Full Version : Bad Karma?

I'm just curious if anyone else ever has the feeling that the MC gods like laughing at our expense sometimes?

I'm at a point in my work life that it's hard to find time to sneeze unless I've scheduled it in Outlook at least a week in advance. And with two kids on the verge of teenagedom, most of my time at home is heavily scheduled. Throw in having to fix the random leaky faucet, change a light fixture, mow the lawn, help out with laundry, etc. and I typically have to plan my bike adventures well in advance.

Twice now I've had to cancel/postpone trips planned well in advance. Deal's gap got cancelled about a month ago and just now my long weekend in the TX Hill Country got scrubbed.

What's up with that?

It's a phase. This too shall pass.

I try to look at interruptions or obstacles as my guardian angel trying to tell me something. If too many problems arise in the time approaching a ride or trip or other major event, I have to ask myself if I'm really not supposed to go.

Every now and then I do pass up on a ride when something just doesn't quite feel right. Maybe its just been too long since my last real ride and I'm trying to force it. Since NC and the Hill Country were a wash, maybe the 3rd times the charm. Hmm... how long to get to Florida I wonder.

I'll meet you in north FL this weekend. ;)

A lot of things get harder as I get older. Even the little things, like bike maintenance, or just mowing the lawn. If it can go wrong, it will. Murphy's law is now Murphy's Unavoidable Outcome.

Maybe I used up all my good luck when I was younger. I got away with a lot of crazy stunts without killing myself, and I seem to remember that the small stuff went a lot more smoothy back then also.

Karma? I didn't screw over anybody, AFAIK... isn't bad Karma supposed to be 'payback'?

Karma isn't kicking me in the nuts, the economy is. I was supposed to go to Colorado/Arizona next weekend but had to cancel those plans since work is slow and I have to take a week of "unpaid vacation" this month and 3 more weeks unpaid next month.

Luckily I've had some free time to tear it up on my new motocross bike. Whatever riding I do get in is never enough though.

I had enough riding this weekend to last me for at least a week. Maybe two. If today hadn't been cut short by rain, I would have had enough for 3 weeks. LOL

I just want to get home, put this stuff away, take a pain killer & go to sleep!

If Karma existed, I wouldn't lead the charmed life I do. I'm certainly not deserving of all the happiness I enjoy.

Karma is actually what happens in your next life as a result of what you do in this one. So if you are currently living a charmed life, it would be because you earned it in the previous one. If you believe in that, of course. Maybe whether you do or not?

Perhaps. But I don't believe I was any better in a past life. ;-)

Outed again.

I don't know that I really believe Karma has to wait until another lifetime to get you. As yet another example, when I was young, I was pretty selfish in my attitude towards dating and on more than one occassion could have handled things much better. Fast forward a few years and guess who has a pair of baby girls enter his life and make him reflect on some of those things he did? Karma.

Then there's 'instant' karma. Like those kids awhile back, who were teasing that tiger in the zoo, throwing stuff at it... so it goes ballistic, jumps the fence and kills them.

Instant karma.

I believe in karma. Call me morbid but is there any u-tube footage of that tiger attack? I am fascinated with big cats and how they act. My all-time dream is to go on safari in Africa, specifically to see the lions and then to asia to see the tigers. I think I have watched every u-tube video of cat attacks out there but the one you mention doesn't ring a bell..

There's no footage of the actual attack as far as I know. I'm not exactly sure of the story, but I know at least one kid was killed. They shot the tiger. There was a big investigation and it was all over the news. It came out recently that the kids were teasing the tiger, throwing things at it.

So this last weekend was supposed to be the long weekend where I went down the Hill Country for some riding. Because of that planned trip I took Monday off. Sunday night my wife and I talked about dropping the girls off and heading out to one of the small towns in the area for a short 2-up ride and some lunch. Early Monday morning when I let our German Shepherd out, I notice she has a bit of a limp. I take a closer look and see that she's got a hot spot on her hip where she's been biting at an itch or something. So... after we drop off the kids at school we make a trip to the vet. Around 11:00 we finally head back home and agree to just pick up some subs from Firehouse. Karma continues...

That's not bad karma, that's just life.

Karma is when you are rewarded for taking good care of your dog.

You're absolutely right. Besides I don't think there are any excuses for not meeting the responsibilities you take on when you make a pet a part of the family.

Well said. We've gladly given up many trips and other personal fun for the sake of our two Wolf/Malamutes. They're our children, now that our human children are all grown and off living their lives. We're a pack. ;)
